Beginning her study of African dance twenty years ago, “Sista Njideka” has had the privilege of studying with many legendary master dancers such as Youssouf Koumbassa, Mouminatou Camera, Moustapha Bangoura and Marietou Camara. She is also grateful for her Indianapolis teachers such as Mijiza Soyini and Richard Gogoua.

She has traveled to Africa to study with the well-known djeli Bangoura family. In March of 2012, she and her husband, an accomplished Djembe drummer originally from Liberia, co-founded the Sankofa Faré Dance and Drum Institute. Njideka whole-heartedly believes that participation in African dance takes one on a journey that ultimately leads to “home”. She also has a beautiful 10-year old daughter who loves African dance too.
