Kahlil has been performing since 1980. Beginning as a child performer in the Kuumba Youth Theatre of Indianapolis he acted , danced and sang in several performances. He was formally introduced to drumming by the late Prince Julius Adeyini and Master Yuddidiyuh Demar.  Kahlil continued acting as a theatre student in the magnet programs of Indianapolis Public Schools and other local productions.

After receiving formal education and certification from Martin University (B.A.)  Ball St. University (M.A.) and Indiana Wesleyan University (ELM certification) as an elementary school teacher certified in special education; he continued honing his craft utilizing storytelling and dramatic representations as teaching modalities. In addition , since 2005, Kahlil has been a youth martial arts instructor at the Simba House, a center that teaches youth: self defense, positive health practices and outdoor life skills. Currently, Kahlil is Lead Teacher at the KI Community School, continues to instruct a youth martial arts class , drums with the African Dance and Drum Troupe of Indianapolis and is also a drummer with the Griot Drum Ensemble.
